Marzemino is an old red wine that is believed to have come from Italy . It has been proven in the Adige Valley (south of Trient , Vallagarina , currently called Lagertal ) in the north Italian Trentino since the 15th century .

The Marzemino used to be part of the Chianti recipe . Today it is still cultivated in small quantities in the regions of Trentino-South Tyrol, Emilia-Romagna , Lombardy and Veneto . Ampelographic varietal characteristics

  • The shoot tip is open. It is woolly hairy, whitish with a slightly bronze tinge. The green-yellowish young leaves are weakly haired on the upper side and woolly on the lower side.
  • The medium-sized leaves are three- to five-lobed and hardly curved. The stem bay is closed in a V-shape because the stem bay ends overlap. The sheet is serrated to a point. The teeth are set closely in comparison to the grape varieties. The upper side of the leaf (also called the leaf blade) is blistered.
  • The conical to cylindrical grape is large and dense. The round berries are medium-sized and red-purple in color. The skin of the vine is hard and the berry is juicy.
