The Kreuzwarthügel , sometimes just Warthügel , is a small hill on the eastern edge of the Amöneburg basin and the village of Rüdigheim , which belongs to the city of Amöneburg . The hill is 235.3 m above sea level. NHN high and rises around 30 meters above the village of Rüdigheim. With its meager lawn right on the outskirts, it offers wonderful views over Rüdigheim to the Amöneburg and the Mardorfer Kuppe as well as into the Ohm valley. The centuries-old wayside shrine on the Warthügel, which was destroyed by lightning in 2006, has been renewed based on its old model. Every year a cross procession of the local parish takes place here.

The mountain is a stage of two official hiking trails of the city of Amöneburg, the twelve kilometer long geotour “Kreuz & Quer” and since 2016 the new, around five kilometer long geotour “Stock & Stein”. The hiking trail "Kreuz & Quer" leads, starting from the Kreuzwarthügel over the Brücker mill to the Schweinsberger Moor and back to Rüdigheim.

geology

The Kreuzwarthügel is, like the neighboring and much better known basalt peaks Amöneburg and Schweinsberg, of volcanic origin.

Trivia

A curiosity is that the Mittlere Steinwartshügel, only 100 meters northwest, is even slightly higher than the Kreuzwarthhügel at around 240.7 meters, but is far from being known.
