The war memorial in Céret , a Southern French Town in Eastern Pyrenees the region Okzitanien was obtained from the known sculptor Maillol created (1861-1944). The war memorial on the Place de la Liberté has been on the list of architectural monuments in France as Monument historique since 1994 .

The order for the war memorial in memory of the 151 fallen soldiers during the First World War from Céret, which bears the name La douleur (German pain ), was placed in 1919. The official inauguration took place in 1922. The monument from sandstone provides a grieving woman reclining her head on a hand that is.

In the Jardin du Carrousel at the Louvre in Paris there is a bronze version of La douleur .
