from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Kriegfried is a German artist group. The founding members are Caroline Bittermann (Cologne), Harald Häuser (Marburg), Wolf Pehlke (Karlsruhe), Heinz Pelz (Karlsruhe), Ralf Scherrer (Berlin) and Jürgen Wiesner (Karlsruhe).

history

The history of the artist group “Kriegfried” goes back to 1979, when an art student and five art students from the Karlsruhe Academy , all students of Per Kirkeby , met to clarify their artistic intentions in a joint discussion, mutual stimulation and criticism. There was no common ground in the artistic work, no “group style” was sought, rather the individual approaches were promoted. Six artist personalities have emerged, each representing a completely independent art. They organized several exhibitions for all the students at the Karlsruhe Art Academy, such as "The unseen bad picture" in 1979, "Glück und Bild" in 1980, "Your last picture" in 1981.

At the 1980 Venice Biennale , the group organized the performance “Chalk Circles”. Wolf Pehlke and Joseph Beuys could be seen there in the joint action “Harvey meets Osswald”. In an exhibition organized by the Marburg Museum, the “Kriegfried” group came together for a joint undertaking in 1988 for the first time since their studies in Karlsruhe, which the individual members had ended in the mid-1980s. This exhibition was then shown in Stuttgart and finally in Savannah in the US state of Georgia .

In 1993 the art halls in the cultural center of the Kammgarnfabrik (Schaffhausen / Switzerland) hosted a large "Kriegfried" exhibition.

In 2011 the group of artists was invited to an exhibition by 59 Rivoli Paris . Large-format black and white photographs of the 1980 Biennale performance and a jointly developed room installation will be exhibited.

In 2016 the Kulturnetzwerk Mühlburg eV organized a Kriegfried exhibition in the Lukaskirche Karlsruhe. This exhibition is also intended as a homage to Wolf Pehlke, who died in 2013. A publication appears with contributions by Dr. Eckhart Pillick, Dr. Margrit Brehm, Prof. Axel Heil, Michael Hübl and numerous texts by Wolf Pehlke.
