The Crimean linden ( Tilia × euchlora ) is a deciduous tree of the genus of Linden ( Tilia ) in the family of mallow (Malvaceae). This linden species is probably a hybrid of the winter lime tree ( Tilia cordata ) with the Black Sea lime tree ( Tilia dasystyla ) that originated around 1860 .

description

The Crimean linden is a deciduous tree that can reach heights of growth of around 18 meters with a trunk diameter of around 70 cm. The bark is light gray and smooth and partially striped dark gray. The branches in the upper part of the treetop rise steeply on the inside and fall down like a whip on the outside, which gives the crown a narrow high shape.

Top of sheet

The young twigs are lime green to yellow green. The crooked heart-shaped leaves are 5 to 10 cm long, sometimes up to 15 cm long. The leaf sits on a stalk about 5 cm long and is finely and sharply serrated. The leaves are glossy dark green on the upper side and light green on the underside with showy brown armpit whiskers. The autumn color is relatively inconspicuous; only parts of the foliage turn yellow.

At the end of July, the flowering time is late compared to the other most important linden species. The yellow flowers are grouped in hanging umbels of 3 to 7 pieces. The bract is obscure-lanceolate and about 8 cm long. The hairy fruit is faintly ribbed five times and resembles a short ellipsoid in shape.

distribution

This hybrid is often planted in Germany as a street and park tree.

use

In the beekeeping is the Crimean Linde as all Linden due to the very high sugar content of their nectar (up to 80%) and its high sugar value (up to 2.31 mg of sugar / day per flower) an estimated costume .
