Kripo live is a television broadcast by Mitteldeutscher Rundfunk (MDR).

Originally, the program was broadcast on DFF 2 at irregular intervals and on different slots and ran there for the first time on May 19, 1990. After DFF2 was switched off, the MDR took over the program on January 5, 1992 and has been broadcasting it every Sunday at 7:50 p.m. since then Clock off for 25 minutes.

In the program, the criminal police present unsolved crimes and ask viewers to provide relevant information for clarification. In contrast to file number XY ... unresolved , Kripo live not only deals with capital crimes , but also less serious crimes. The program was initially moderated by Heike Lebe, who later switched to the production team and handed over the moderation to Birgit von Derschau, who ran the program until 2013. The moderator and author Birgit von Derschau was honored as honorary detective commissioner in 2000, as honorary chief detective commissioner in 2002 and as honorary chief detective commissioner in 2011. She is an honorary member of the Bund Deutscher Kriminalbeamter.

The audience is the broadcast in the top segment of the reachable on regional television coverage since the beginning. Kripo live has thus become one of the most successful formats on German television.

On June 27, 1999, the broadcast was looking for the murderer Dieter Zurwehme , whereupon a caller suspected the clearly different-looking pensioner Friedhelm Beate , who was then shot by civil investigators, simply because of the features of “backpack and walking stick” .

On April 10, 2011, the 1000th program was broadcast. On September 5, 2013, the MDR announced that Birgit von Derschau will be replaced by Axel Bulthaupt from October 6, 2013 . In addition, the studio is moving from Dresden to Leipzig. Under Bulthaupt, the program for forensic documentation is redesigned and there is an investigation and laboratory area where Bulthaupt recreates the individual cases.
