Kristian Gerner (* 1942 ) is a Swedish historian , author , Eastern Europe expert and professor .

Life

Gerner studied at the University of Lund , where he obtained his doctorate in 1984 with a thesis on the relations between the Soviet Union and Central Europe in the post-war period . From 1994 to 2002 he was Professor of Eastern European History and Culture at Uppsala University and since 2002 he has been Professor of History at Lund University. His research has focused on Central and Eastern European history and cultural history of the 20th century. He is a member of the board of the Swedish human rights organization Institute for Information on Communist Crimes (Swedish: Upplysning om kommunismen, UOK).
