The Munich New Secession (MNS) was an artists' association founded in 1913, in which former members of the Munich Secession , who felt they were no longer adequately represented by their increasingly conservative artist group, as well as members of the Scholle , the Neue Künstlervereinigung München (NKVM), the artist group Sema and the International Federation came together. Until 1916 it was run under the name Neue Münchener Secession . In 1937 it had to dissolve under the pressure of National Socialism .

founding

A number of younger artists, including Karl Arnold , Bernhard Bleeker (1st chairman from 1918), Adolf Erbslöh , Alexej von Jawlensky , Paul Klee and Albert Weisgerber formed their own group of artists based on the model of the New Secession in Berlin. In the founding circular, they wrote: “Munich as a city of art and Munich's young, aspiring talents need a new organization that brings together the best from many small groups. This was the guiding principle behind the founding of the 'MNS': It should not only serve one direction, but each individual artist ”. Weisgerber became the first chairman of the association. The first exhibition of the group of artists, then known as the New Munich Secession, took place from May 30th to October 1st, 1914 at Galeriestrasse 26.

Mostly expressionist artists gathered in Munich's Neue Secession . After the First World War , artists who worked after Expressionism were added. The style of the increasingly prevalent New Objectivity was also represented.

On the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the city of Munich , an "honorary exhibition" was held in 1958 at the Münchner Kunstverein.
