Walter Püttner

Walter Püttner (born October 9, 1872 in Leipzig , † February 10, 1953 at Maxlrain Castle near Bad Aibling ) was a German painter .

Life

Püttner was the son of the architect and landscape draftsman Richard Püttner , from whom he received his first painting lessons. Then he went to Munich for further training at the Academy of Fine Arts to Ludwig Herterich , Ludwig Löfftz and Paul Hoecker . He was artistically inspired by Wilhelm Trübner . He was a founding member of the artists' association Die Scholle and the Munich New Secession , where he was also on the board with Max Feldbauer . After his training in 1897 he worked as an illustrator for the weekly magazine Die Jugend . He taught at the women's academy of the Munich Artists' Association and was awarded the title of Professor. The motifs of his painting were cityscapes, portraits and interiors .

In 1900 he was the winner of a competition by Ludwig Stollwerck for designs for a Stollwerck scrapbook . Other award winners were Fritz Helmuth Ehmcke from Berlin, Ernst Neumann from Munich, Adolf Höfer from Munich, Maximilian Liebenwein from Burghausen and Karl Hölle from Hamburg. The judges were Emil Doepler the Elder . J., Woldemar Friedrich , Bruno Schmitz and Franz Skarbina from Berlin as well as a partner in the Stollwerck company.

Walter Püttner was a member of the German Association of Artists .
