Hans Lasser

Hans Lasser (* 13. October 1891 in Metz , † 14. July 1932 in Munich ) was a figurative painter of Expressionism in Germany in the 1920s.

Life

Hans Lasser was born in 1891 in Metz, which at the time was still part of the German Empire as the Lorraine district due to the Peace of Frankfurt . After his first artistic training with E. Groß and Emil Schneider in Strasbourg , Hans Lasser studied painting from 1911 to 1913 with Carl von Marr at the Royal Academy of Fine Arts in Munich . In 1914 he traveled to Paris. At the end of the First World War, Hans Lasser moved permanently to Munich at Hiltensbergerstraße 36 in 1918.

From 1920 he belonged to the Munich New Secession , where he exhibited figure pictures, portraits and landscapes. In 1922 there was a collective exhibition at Hans Goltz in Munich, the anniversary exhibition “10 Years of New Art in Munich” , u. a. with Otto Dix , Max Ernst , Lyonel Feininger and in 1924 then with Oskar Kokoschka and Lovis Corinth, among others . In 1926, Hans Lasser accompanied the author Georg Britting and the painter Josef Achmann on a long journey through Italy and created the drawings for travel stations and texts by Georg Britting, who published them in the Frankfurter Zeitung and the Magdeburgische Zeitung. At the international exhibition “The beautiful person in new art” from June 16 to October 6, 1929 at Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt, two works by Lasser were shown next to u. a. Marc Chagall , Max Pechstein and Oskar Schlemmer are on display. From May 30th to the beginning of October 1930, Hans Lasser was represented with six exhibits at the "German Art Exhibition Munich 1930 in the Glaspalast " . In addition to works by Max Beckmann , Oskar Kokoschka, Max Liebermann and Emil Nolde , his picture Sommer was also shown directly in the catalog.

He was married to Wilhelmine Lasser who, as a widow, worked as a missionary doctor in China for 15 years. Hans Lasser died at the age of 40 and was buried on July 16, 1932 in Munich.

Lasser's paintings are characterized by compact compositions that emphasize the surface of the picture, by their soft physicality and simplifying plasticity of the figures and objects, as well as by their extensive application of paint. Today his works are scattered in private collections. Known include:
