Kristie Ebi
Kristie L. Ebi (born before 1972 ) is an American health scientist primarily concerned with the health effects of climate change . She holds the Rohm & Haas Endowed Professorship in Health Care at the University of Washington .
Life
Ebi graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor's degree in biochemistry in 1972 . She then graduated from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a master's degree in toxicology . She also received her Masters (1983) and PhD (1985) degrees in Epidemiology from the University of Michigan . After completing her studies, she conducted research at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine .
Act
Ebi researches the health risks of climate fluctuations and climate change. Her research focuses on the effects of and adaptation to climate variability and change, including related extreme events , thermal stress , food safety, and vector diseases . Her aim is to understand the causes of vulnerabilities, assess current and future health risks from climate change, and develop adaptation strategies and measures to reduce the risks of climate change in environments with multiple stress factors.
Ebi was one of the lead authors of the special report 1.5 ° C global warming published by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in 2018 . Ebi's chapter shows that the advance of man-made climate change can mean death for many people. In the public debate about ways out of the climate crisis , Ebi compared the report to a doctor who made a very serious diagnosis in a patient: “If you have cancer, you need a doctor who can tell you how serious your cancer is and what options it is They have."
