Kronach is an annual festival in the Upper Franconian town of Kronach . During the free event, which takes place over ten nights around May 1st, numerous light art works and light installations can be seen on and in part also in many public and private buildings in the old town and on the Rosenberg Fortress directly to the north . These illuminations are accompanied by a musical program.

The festival, which is mainly financed by private donations and sponsoring by local businesses, has been run by the Kronach Creativ e. V. aligned. In the first few years, students from the Coburg University of Applied Sciences were primarily responsible for the light installations ; in the meantime, various other German and international universities for architecture and lighting design are also participating in the event in the form of workshops . Many of the now more than 70 installations are increasingly also projects by artists, private individuals or school classes.

The festival is attended by around 100,000 guests every year. Because of the numerous colorful motifs in front of the historic city backdrop, Kronach is particularly popular with photographers from all over Germany. This is funded by a photo competition organized by the organizers; the pictures selected by a jury will be presented in an exhibition and published in the form of an art calendar, the proceeds of which will be used to finance the festival.
