Lake Kronotskoye ( Russian озеро Кроноцкое ) is located on the Kamchatka Peninsula in the far east of Russia .
With an area of 245 km², Lake Kronotskoye is the largest freshwater lake on Kamchatka. The lake lies at an altitude of about 372 m and is 32 km away from the east coast of Kamchatka. The Kronozkaya River drains the lake to the southeast to the Pacific Ocean and runs between the volcanic cones of Kronozkaya Sopka ( 3527 m ) in the north and Krasheninnikow ( 1856 m ) in the south. The main tributaries of the lake are Listwennitschnaja , Uson and Unana . The maximum water depth is 136 m, the mean water depth 58 m. The length of the approximately triangular lake is 25 km, the maximum width 16 km. Lake Kronotskoye is located 210 km north-northeast of the city of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky within the Kronotsky Nature Reserve .
Fish fauna
The lake is an important spawning area for sockeye salmon . There are other salmonids , including Salvelinus albus , Salvelinus kronocius and Salvelinus schmidti .
