Crown Prince Guard

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Crown Prince Guard of the Kingdom of Hanover was a "playhouse" built in the middle of the 19th century for the then Crown Prince Ernst August and the other children of the King of George V and Queen Marie . The building in front of the gates of the royal city of Hanover in the Great Garden of Herrenhausen was initially built from wood in the so-called “Königsbusch” in 1858. In the years from 1860 to 1861 it was replaced by a brick building according to plans by the court architect Heinrich Tramm .

Tramm had delivered two designs, of which the simpler design was implemented. In this case, was an over the plastered wall cornice from sandstone applied while structure was otherwise built of yellow brick. The building was intended to introduce the children to the Hanoverian military to be led by the future sovereign in a playful way : In the vestibule there was a “rifle bench”, behind it an imaginary lounge for the “ teams ” with cots . To the left of the vestibule was an " officers room", to the right a similar room that might have served the NCOs .

Behind the Kronprinzenwache there was still a green area with a small fountain at the beginning of the 20th century, possibly a remnant of the water feature mentioned on the building bills of 1859/60 as " fountain with waterfall ".

In front of the guard a part of a mast with scorch marks of the Danish ship of the line Christian VIII , which was captured near Eckernförde in 1849, was installed.

When the Königsbusch was redesigned in 1936 and 1937, the vases from the former Crown Prince Guard were moved to the round side rooms of the bosket .
