Goiter irrigation

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The crop irrigation is a method in the treatment of birds , in which by means of a hose tube or a button cannula liquid into the crop is introduced and sucked in again. It is particularly indicated in cases of voiding disorders ( widening of the head ). At the same time, a goiter rinse sample can be taken during this procedure , which can then be examined microscopically and / or microbiologically . The examination of a goiter rinse sample is indispensable for any goiter inflammation as well as regurgitation and vomiting .

To do this, the bird's head must be well fixed and the neck must be stretched. Then the probe or button cannula is advanced from the left into the esophagus , which is on the right side of the neck of birds . The correct position can be checked by feeling the goiter through the skin. Then about 20 ml of isotonic saline solution per kg of body mass are injected into the goiter, the goiter massaged briefly and then the liquid with goiter contents is sucked off again. Then, if necessary, a drug for local treatment can be introduced into the goiter.
