Krotopos

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Krotopos ( ancient Greek Κρότωπος ) was the son of Agenor in Greek mythology . He became king of Argos after Iasus , his father's brother . He was the father of Sthenelas and the Psamathe .

Psamathe was pregnant by Apollo and gave birth to a child. Since she wanted to keep it from her father, she suspended it. The herdsmen of the herds of Crotopus found the child and killed it. Therefore Apollo sent the Poine (a spirit of revenge), which snatched the children from the argivers. Koroibos , the Megarian hero , came to the rescue and killed the Poine. But afterwards the plague hit Argos.

After Krotopos' death he was buried in Argos , the grave was shown to Pausanias there. His son Sthenelas took the throne after him.
