The Kroussia Ori ( Greek Κρούσσια όρη ( n. Pl. ), Bulgarian Круша ) are a low mountain range in Central Macedonia . They are formed by the two mountain ranges Dysoro ( Δύσωρο ) and the Mavrovouni Kroussion ( Μαυροβούνι Κρουσσίων )

The low mountain range extends from northwest to southeast and forms the natural border between the regional districts (and former prefectures) Kilkis and Serres . The Dojransee stretches to the northeast and the Mavrovouni joins the Mavrovouni to the southeast through the transition of the Lachanas to the Bertiskos . In the north, the low mountain range connects to the Kerkini Mountains with the Stena Doberou bottleneck (Dov tepe, Στενά της Δοβήρου · Ντοβ τεπέ). The highest peak of the mountain is the Mavrovouni with 1179 m height.

The mountains drain into two larger rivers: the Gallikos , which carries gold, and the Strymonas (Στρυμόνας). It is largely covered by oak and bush forests. With the Strymonas it formed the eastern border of Macedonia in ancient times. Therefore, there were always armed conflicts in this area. The mountains were also famous for their lions , which were hard on the Persian army under Xerxes I when crossing the Lachana Isthmus.
