Part of the Buchwäldchen-Muckwar pond landscape

The Krummetteich is an artificially created pond in Luckaitztal , a municipality in the Oberspreewald-Lausitz district in Brandenburg . It is part of the nature reserve pond landscape Buchwäldchen-Muckwar and thus the nature park Niederlausitzer Landücken .

location

The pond is located northeast of Luckaitztal and southwest of the Buchwäldchen district . Of the total of nine ponds, the Krummetteich is in the eastern area. To the west are the Bindeteich , the Herrenteich , to the south the Little and Big Paul . To the northwest is the Small and Large Brewery Pond .

History and Development

The artificially created ponds were probably created in the 12th century by the Cistercians for fish farming and used by the farms in Buchwäldchen and Muckwar . Due to the lignite mining , the groundwater level fell sharply at times. In order to still be able to regulate the water levels of the individual ponds, a dam, the Teichmönch, was built in the 1970s. In 1997 the area was placed under protection as the Buchwäldchen-Muckwar pond landscape and has been repopulated since then. In the 21st century the pond is operated by a pond farm in Fürstlich Drehna for carp breeding. In 2019, the Krummetteich dam was renovated for around 22,000 euros.

fauna and Flora

Red-bellied toads , the northern crested newt , otters and tree frogs have been observed in the water ; grass snakes on land . The area is also a habitat for the crane , the black stork and the sea eagle .

The king fern , dragon arum and broad-leaved orchid have been identified in endangered plant species . Particularly noteworthy are the riparian zones with an alder forest , which are supplemented by pedunculate oaks , hornbeam forests and alluvial forests .
