Kryptopterus is a genus of fish from the family of the real catfish (Siluridae), which includes 19 species found in Southeast Asia. Some ofthese are ofgreat importance as food fishin Indonesia , and the Indian glass catfish in particularis also kept as an aquarium fish.

features

They are small fish, no more than 25 centimeters long. The snout is relatively short and the mouth does not reach the eye. The barbels on the upper jaw are longer than the head, which is usually less than 20% of the standard length. The eye is subcutaneous . The dorsal fin has one or two rays or is absent. The pectoral fins are longer than the head. The pelvic fins have four to eight rays. The caudal fin is forked. The number of Branchiostegal rays is 14 or less, that of the vortices is 61 or less.
