Gavriil Vasilievich Ksenofontow ( Russian Гавриил Васильевич Ксенофонтов ., Scientific transliteration Gavriil Vasil'evič Ksenofontov ; * 4. January 1888 in Malschegar today Sacha (Yakutia), Russia ; † 28. August 1938 in Kommunarka in Moscow ) was a Russian- Yakut ethnographer . He has made a name for himself as a collector of messages about the shamans of various East Siberian peoples. His Shaman Legends (Irkutsk, 1928) were published by the Yakut Section of the East Siberian Department of the Russian Geographical Society .

On April 22, 1938, Ksenofontov was arrested as part of the Stalin Great Terror , sentenced to death on August 28, 1938 for alleged espionage and shot on the same day in Kommunarka near Moscow. On August 22, 1957, Ksenofontov was rehabilitated .
