Kuhberg (Schwalmpforte)

The Kuhberg is a 342.9  m high mountain near Borken in the Schwalm-Eder district in northern Hesse .

The almost completely forested mountain is the northeastern branch of the Altenburg ( 432.7  m above sea  level ) and, like this, belongs to the Altenburg sandstone ridge in the Hessenwald natural area (344.6). Together with the Hundsburg ( 334.9  m ) to the north, between Kerstenhausen in the west and Kleinenglis in the east, it forms the Schwalmpforte , where the Schwalm , after coming from the south from the Löwensteiner Grund in an elongated arc, forms the west and north side of the Altenburg and the Kuhberg has flowed around, breaks through to the east into the Schwalmaue .

The next localities are Kerstenhausen in the northwest, Arnsbach in the east and Kleinenglis in the northeast, all districts of Borken. At the foot of the mountain, in the north directly in the Schwalmpforte, is the village desert of Klein-Kerstenhausen with the overgrown remains of the Margarethenkirche .

Immediately to the east of the Kuhberg runs in north-south direction the Autobahn 49 , and in the north the federal road 3 runs through the Schwalmpforte. Far east of the highway and the Kuhbergs is the Stockelache one from the opencast mine the former Stockelache pit according to the setting of the brown coal mining in Borkener coal mining area by reclamation incurred, approximately 10 hectare nature badesee .
