Kuiper is a small, bowl-shaped impact crater on the front of the moon in the Mare Cognitum plain , north of Darney crater and west of Bonpland crater .
The crater was officially named by the IAU in 1976 after the American astronomer Gerard Peter Kuiper . Kuiper was a researcher on the Ranger program and the Ranger 7 spacecraft crash site is southeast of the crater ( 10.35 degrees S , 20.58 degrees W ). Previously, the crater when it was Bonpland B referred.
