Kuki Gallmann (born June 1, 1943 in Treviso ) is an Italian-Kenyan author and conservationist.

Born in Italy, Gallmann studied political science in Padua . In 1972, she emigrated to Kenya with her husband and son and became a Kenyan citizen. The family bought a large farm on the Kenyan coast. In 1980 Gallmann's husband died in a car accident, three years later their son died after being bitten by a snake. In 1984 Gallmann founded the Gallmann Memorial Foundation , which is committed to protecting the environment and animals in Kenya. She converted the farm into a nature reserve of around 400 km², Laikipia Nature Conservancy , where ecotourism is practiced. Gallmann lives with her daughter in Laikipia.

Gallmann was the target of attacks several times. On March 29, 2017, her Mukutan Retreat ranch in Laikipia Park burned down. The perpetrators were suspected of being ranchers who are in conflict with landowners in Kenya. On April 23, 2017, Gallmann was seriously injured by a shot in the stomach and transported to Nairobi for treatment. The perpetrators were initially unknown.

Gallmann wrote several books that have been translated into 21 languages. Her autobiography, I dreamed of Africa , was filmed in 2000 with Kim Basinger (" I dreamed of Africa ").
