The Kulah Khud also ind. Top is a helmet and a protective weapon from Persia .

description

The Kulah Khud is usually made of steel. He has a hemispherical helmet bowl and chain mail on the lower edge , which often goes over the shoulders. The chain armor extends around the edge of the helmet to about the height of the temples, and in some versions also over the eyes and nose. The field of vision remains free or is also covered with chain mail. The lower edge of the chain armor is often made in the form of large or small triangular points. At the apex of the helmet there is usually a pointed spike with a square cross-section that resembles a spearhead . An adjustable nose iron is attached to the front of the helmet, which can be pushed in front of the face or up to the helmet if necessary. On the side of the nose iron there are often two metal sleeves that are used to hold a helmet ornament made of feathers. The Kulah Khud was widespread in the Arab, Persian, Turkish and Indian regions and was produced in countless versions. In India it is known under the name "Top". Many of the helmets are decorated using the Tausia technique, which mostly reproduces verses ( suras ) from the Koran (see web link 2). There is a rare version of the Kulah Khud that is equipped with three nose irons. The middle nose iron is used to protect the nose, the two outer ones protect the cheeks.
