The Kulk is a small lake ( Kolk ) in the city of Gommern in Saxony-Anhalt .

The area of the Kulk is 39,000 m². Despite its small size, the lake is a regional tourist center. This is mainly due to the Fuchsberg shifting dune located directly on the lake shore . Another point of interest is the Gommern Rock Garden , which has also been on the shore since 1995 .

Lookout tower on Kulk (2008, with old wooden stairs)

In the immediate vicinity is a 17 m high observation tower built in 1992 and equipped with a new metal spiral staircase since 2012 . There are also several restaurants, a snack kiosk and a children's playground. The paths around the Kulk were paved after 1990.

At the point of the lake there was a quarry since the end of the 19th century , which was operated by a Louis Schröder from Gommern. Quartzite was funded for use as a building material in road and house construction. In 1915 , however, the quarry was closed. The reasons for this are assumed to be unprofitable because of the high cost of the water to be pumped and the housing developments that are too close and endangered by blasting. After ceasing operations, the quarry filled up and today's lake was created.
