The city ​​of Kaufbeuren's art and culture prize is awarded annually for special achievements and merits in the artistic and cultural field, which relate to the city or the Kaufbeuren area . It is awarded in the fields of music, literature, visual and performing arts as well as for overarching cultural maintenance and as a youth award under the following names:

According to the award guidelines, the award should primarily be given to people or groups from the city of Kaufbeuren or with reference to the Kaufbeuren area. A jury made up of the Lord Mayor or his representative, one representative from each of the parliamentary groups represented in the city council, and a maximum of one expert per award category with an expert opinion without voting rights will decide on the award of the prize. After the jury proposal has been discussed by the school, culture and sports committee of the city council, the council decides on the award of the prize with a two-thirds majority. If the city council rejects the jury's recommendation, the prize will not be awarded. The prize, founded in 1979, is endowed with prize money of 2,000 euros.
