Kuniaki Shibata
Kuniaki Shibata ( Japanese 柴 田 国 明 , Shibata Kuniaki ; born March 29, 1947 in Hitachi , Japan ) is a former Japanese boxer and three-time world champion.
Career
He won his first 21 fights, most of them by knockout. On April 15, 1970, he won the vacant Japanese championship title and in December of the same year the WBC world featherweight title . He defended the title against Raul Cruz with a knockout and against Ernesto Marcel with a draw.
On May 19, 1972, Clemente Sánchez took his belt from him when he knocked him out in the third round. In March 1973 he won the WBA super featherweight championship by beating Ben Villaflor on points and lost the title in rematch by classic knockout in round 1.
In late February 1974 he fought against the Mexican Ricardo Arredondo for the WBC world championship title in super featherweight, which he had already won in featherweight, and won on points. Overall, he defended the title three times.
