Art collection Jena

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Jena Art Collection is an exhibition space in Jena and part of the Jena City Museum. With its exhibition program, it stands in the tradition of the Jena Art Association , which made Jena a center of the artistic avant-garde from Ernst Ludwig Kirchner to Paul Klee to Wassily Kandinsky at the beginning of the 20th century .

In special exhibitions on art and art history, current compositions of young international contemporary art alternate with personal exhibitions by recognized artists. The Jena Art Collection publishes exhibition publications to accompany the exhibitions.

The art collection of the city of Jena includes almost 5,000 works of painting, graphics and sculpture as well as object art. The focus of the collection is on the art of the 20th century, from classical modernism to a large bundle of art from the GDR through to national and international contemporary art.
