The Anaconda Copper Mine was a large mine in Butte in the US state of Montana , where copper was mined.
history
Until 1881 the mine was owned by Michael Hickey, from whom Marcus Daly acquired it.
Their ore was transported by the Anaconda Copper Mining Company on the Butte, Anaconda and Pacific Railway 45 kilometers northwest to a copper smelter built there . Around this a settlement developed, which was named after the mining company Anaconda (Montana) . In 1947 civil engineering was discontinued and the Berkeley Pit opencast mine was opened on the site from 1955 , which was operated until 1984.
