Kupreanof is a town on the east coast of Kupreanof Island , a 2803 km² island in the Alexander Archipelago in the Petersburg Borough of the US state Alaska . According to the 2000 census , it has only 23 residents, making it the smallest "incorporated city" of Alaska.

Kupreanof is the smaller of the two settlements on Kupreanof Island. The village, like the island, was named after Baron Ivan Antonovich Kupreianow , who was governor of the Russian-American company from 1835 to 1840 .
