The Kupreanof Island (English "Kupreanof Island") is an island belonging to the archipelago of the Alexander Archipelago in the US state of Alaska .
Kupreanof Island is 84 km long and 32 km wide. The Lindenberg Peninsula, which adjoins the southeastern end of the island but is separated by a narrow strip of water, the Duncan Canal , is regarded as belonging to the island. The land area of the Kupreanof Island is 2803 km². The 2000 census found a population of 785.
There are two settlements on the island. The larger of the two settlements is Kake in the northwest of the island. The other is Kupreanof ; it is located on the east side of the island opposite the city of Petersburg on the nearby Mitkof Island .
The island was named after Baron Ivan Antonovich Kuprejanow (1800-1857) who was governor of the Russian-American company from 1835 to 1840 .
