Architecture and history

In the second half of the 19th century, after the local city wall was torn down, representative buildings were erected north of Mauerstrasse. Including the Hotel Fürstenhof , which was initially built in half-timbered construction in 1895 . In 1905 a large theater hall was added and at times operated as a Fürstenhof theater . The hotel became a central point in the city's social life. In April 1911, however, the building burned down.

The building, which is still preserved today, was rebuilt in a two-year construction period. The two-story building also received a hall with a separate stage and around 800 seats, which was operated as a spa theater from 1913 . The building is covered by a hewn mansard roof . The skylights are semicircular.

Well-known theater companies performed in the house during the summer months of the 1920s and 1930s . In addition, since 1919, film screenings have taken place several times a week in the Fürstenhof-Lichtspiele outside of theater hours . On April 20, 1945, the stage was destroyed by a bomb. In the period after 1945 the hall was converted into a pure cinema and operated under the name Kurtheater-Lichtspiele . A club cinema was later set up in a smaller hall. After the peaceful revolution in the GDR , the cinema was taken over by Ufa-Theater AG in 1991 , which has only operated the club cinema since the end of the 1990s. The restaurant and hotel were refurbished and the use of the cinema ended in 2003. After renovations in 2007, the former cinema foyer was converted into a wellness area. The building is used as a hotel.

The hotel is listed in the local register of monuments under registration number 094 01763 as a monument .
