Tetsuko Kuroyanagi
Tetsuko Kuroyanagi ( jap 黒 柳 徹 子 , Kuroyanagi Tetsuko ; born August 9, 1933 in Nogizaka, Akasaka , Tokyo (today: Nogizaka, Minato , Tokyo )) is a Japanese actress and writer .
Since 1976 she has been the presenter of the daily talk show Tetsuko no Heya ( 徹 子 の 部屋 , literally: "Tetsuko's room") running on TV Asahi , which was also the first in Japan.
She is internationally known for the autobiographical children's book Madogiwa no Totto-chan (English title: Totto-chan. School can be so wonderful ), published in 1981 , which was originally published as a series of articles in a magazine. After that, the Totto Foundation ( ト ッ ト 基金 , Totto kikin ), which she founded , is named, which cares for the disabled and especially the deaf.
Kuroyanagi is Chair of WWF Japan and UNICEF Special Ambassador since 1984 .
