Court pharmacy

The Kurpfälzische Hofapotheke is a listed baroque building in Heidelberg . Although the pharmacy moved out in the 19th century, the name for the house has been handed down to the present day.

The court pharmacy has been in use here since 1404. At that time, the pharmacist from Elector Ruprecht I bought Albrecht von Erligheim's house. Like almost all houses in Heidelberg, the pharmacy was destroyed in the Palatinate War of Succession . The current building was built in 1701 by Johann Dietrich Hofstatt, probably based on plans by Johann Jakob Rischer . In 1878 the pharmacy moved to Sofienstraße 11 . After that, the house experienced various uses and structural changes, in 1897 the attic, in 1927 on the ground floor and first floor, and in 1982 the facade was renovated.

The Kurpfälzische Hofapotheke is located in the main street on the corner of the market square in the old town of Heidelberg , opposite the Heiliggeistkirche . It forms the counterpart of the Renaissance House of the Knight . The ground floor has arcade windows facing the main street and an aedicule portal. In the second half of the 18th century, the splendid coat of arms of Elector Carl Theodor was affixed to the gable above the entrance . The upper floors are structured with Doric pilasters . The dwarf house with a triangular gable on the top floor was probably designed like this in 1897, and until the 1960s there were two putti here. The facade facing Apothekergasse is much more simply designed with ear windows. Due to the various changes in use over the centuries, almost nothing is in its original state inside.
