The Electoral Palatinate boarding school in Bammental in Heidelberg is a Founded in 1961, state-accredited private high school and a nationally recognized high school in private ownership.

history

The facility was founded in 1961 by Erna Lehmann in Gaiberg as a boarding school for 14 boys. In 1962 the first four students graduated from the school. By renting additional rooms, the school offer could be expanded to 46 places in the school year 1963/1964. In 1968 the villa of the wallpaper manufacturer Dierstein was acquired in Bammental and opened one year later as a boarding school for 80 students. In 1971 Erna Lehmann's son joined the management, who took over the management entirely in 1981.

In 1979, 10th grade pupils took the state secondary school final examination for the first time. With the opening of the adjoining gatehouse as a girls' house, the offer was expanded to include 100 student places. In 1997 the upper level building was opened in Reilsheimer Straße. There were now 130 student places in total. With the new construction of the so-called "Berghaus" and the "Glashaus" and a complete renovation in 1999/2000, the learning facility was able to offer 170 boarding places for the 2000/2001 school year. Since 2015 the Kurpfalz boarding school has been a state-approved substitute school for the school types Gymnasium and Realschule. It has been supported by the Kurpfalz-Internat non-profit operating company since September 2015.

Teaching concept and degree

Schoolchildren from grades 7 to 10 are taught in the Realschule and from grades 7 to 12 in the Gymnasium (G8).

The most important feature of the school is that a class consists of a maximum of ten students.

The students either take the state-recognized secondary school leaving certificate or the state-recognized central high school diploma of the state of Baden-Württemberg . At the end of the 10th grade, the pupils of the grammar school receive the middle school leaving certificate ( Mittlere Reife ) with the transfer certificate . In contrast to other federal states, the students do not have to take a separate examination.

additional

The supervised accommodation in the boarding school offers 50 leisure activities in the afternoon and supervised homework time.

The Lehmann family from Heidelberg has also been running the Schloss Torgelow boarding school since 1994 .

criticism

The Germany radio and the world reported in June 2019 that the founding family of the Palatinate-boarding VIA THE schulen.de run a top list in which the private boarding schools are listed. The ranking lacks objectivity, since the selection of individual ratings is made by the operators, and the operators also admit “commercial interests”.
