Saxon distance column Annaberg-Buchholz, Wolkensteiner Tor
The listed distance column Annaberg is one of the post mile columns that were erected in the first half of the 18th century in the Electorate of Saxony on behalf of Elector Friedrich August I of Saxony by Land and Border Commissioner Adam Friedrich Zürner . It is at its original location in front of the former Wolkensteiner Tor in the Erzgebirge district town of Annaberg-Buchholz in the Erzgebirge district .
history
The distance column was erected on July 20, 1730 in front of the Wolkensteiner Tor in Annaberg. Through this gate u. a. the Poststraße via Chemnitz to Halle (Saale) . The column bears the year 1727 because the inscriptions come from this year. The pillar was made by the stonemason Matthias Lambacher from Johanngeorgenstadt .
When the Annaberg city wall was torn down after 1838, this distance column also fell victim to the pickaxe. The parts were used as building materials but reappeared at the beginning of the 20th century. In 1938 the block of letters was stored in the courtyard of the Erzgebirge Museum. In 1968 efforts to rebuild the column began. The reconstruction took place on October 6, 1979.
construction
Like almost all distance columns, it consists of seven parts. The base, pedestal and the crown of the pedestal form the substructure. The superstructure consists of an intermediate plate, shaft, coat of arms piece and attachment.
