Kurt Golda (born September 21, 1925 ; † October 28, 2002 in Munich ) was a German trade unionist, longstanding works council chairman and supervisory board member at BMW . It is attributed to his commitment that BMW remained as an independent company in 1959.

Life

Golda learned the locksmith trade . In 1949 he started working at BMW in Allach , and in 1950 he was elected to the works council. In 1955 he moved to the main factory in Milbertshofen . From 1956 he was chairman of the works council in Munich, from 1967 until his retirement in 1988 he was chairman of the general works council. He was also a member of the BMW supervisory board since 1957 and later its deputy chairman.

In 1959 BMW found itself in a critical economic situation. Golda was able to persuade the main shareholder Herbert Quandt to invest in the company instead of selling the company to Daimler-Benz , thus laying the foundation for the later success of BMW.

Golda represented a constructive cooperation between employers and employees. He was able to enforce the payment of benefits such as vacation pay and profit sharing.

Golda regularly spent his weekends at the Alpenhotel Ammerwald near Reutte in Tyrol , which is also part of the BMW Group .
