Kurt Herterich (born July 7, 1928 in Bayreuth ; died May 5, 2015 there ) was a German civil servant and, after his retirement as a “lay writer”, author of publications on the history of the city about Bayreuth.

biography

In his works, the city historian Herterich meticulously dealt with the past and present of the city of Bayreuth and its residents, sometimes house by house. The focus of his work was his hometown Kreuz , to which he dedicated two books and where he played a key role in building the Evangelical Church of the Cross. He finished a third volume on the Kreuz district, but this was not published. Ten of these exist, one of which was received by the Kreuzkirche parish.

Bayreuth local historian Bernd Mayer encouraged Herterich to write about the Kreuz district in the early 1990s. This resulted in a ten-volume description of other parts of the city as well. The former mayor Dieter Mronz wrote in the foreword to one of his books: "The author ... once again deserves our sincere thanks and our appreciation for the professional presentation of everything that makes a city full of character like Bayreuth so livable and lovable."

Kurt Herterich was born in the Kreuz district, on the street of the same name, and spent his life there. He had two younger brothers, his father died in Soviet captivity . The marriage with his wife Elisabeth remained childless. Before his retirement, Herterich was head of the social and insurance office of the city of Bayreuth.

As a professed Christian , the parish of the Cross was close to his heart. Soon after the building was inaugurated in 1960, he became a member of the church council and remained so for more than three decades.
