Kurt Libesny
Kurt Libesny (born October 24, 1892 in Vienna , † 1939 in the United States ) was an Austrian painter, etcher, commercial artist and poster artist.
Libesny studied at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna with Siegmund L'Allemand , Rudolf Bacher and Ferdinand Schmutzer . He stayed in Rome thanks to a travel grant he received.
Libesny worked in Vienna as a painter, etcher, commercial artist and poster artist. He also created many bookplates .
He founded the Association of Austrian Commercial Graphics, was its president from 1927 to 1936 and later an honorary member. He was also a member of the Economic Advisory Council at the Federal Ministry of Trade and Transport,
He also worked as a judicial expert and wrote many articles on modern commercial graphics in Austrian specialist magazines.
At the end of his life he had to leave Austria and died in exile in the United States at the age of 46.
