Kurt Opitz (born December 13, 1887 in Neustadt near Leipzig , † January 28, 1968 in Leipzig) was a German painter and commercial artist .

Life

Kurt Opitz was born on December 13, 1887 as the son of the Leipzig cartographer Carl Opitz ("Railway and Traffic Atlas of Europe", 1894) and his wife Clara, b. Sieler was born in Leipzig-Neustadt and died on January 28, 1968 at the age of 80. Kurt Opitz studied together with Max Schwimmer at the State Art Academy (Royal Art Academy) commercial graphics. In 1913 he married Else Sieler. Their son Dietrich was born on December 25, 1913.

He was a contemporary and friend of many well-known Leipzig graphic artists and painters such as Emil Bock , Georg Kretzschmar , Alfred Krüger and Hans Peters . Kurt Opitz was represented in many exhibitions, including in the Künstlerhaus on Nikischplatz in August 1935 and for the 6th Wurzen art exhibition in November 1940.

The painting style ranges from Impressionism through Art Nouveau to Expressionism and Naturalism . The book illustrations include the scientific work Descriptive and functional human anatomy , Rübezahl fairy tales and several book illustrations published by Max Koch Verlag Leipzig.

Since 1952 he belonged to the Association of Visual Artists of the GDR (VBKD) section of commercial graphics in Leipzig.
