Kurt Seidel (historian)

Kurt Seidel (born June 24, 1921 in Saulgau ; † April 22, 2001 in Schwäbisch Gmünd ) was a German historian.

Life

The son of a district judge lived in Schwäbisch Gmünd from 1927, where he graduated from high school in 1940. After studying economics at the University of Tübingen there was a doctorate in 1953. rer. pole. with a case study on the town of Leinzell : Misunderstood settlement policy and its social and economic consequences illustrated using a community example . From 1953 to 1955 he was a clerk in the Württembergische Girozentrale - Landeskommunalbank Stuttgart . From 1955 to 1967 he worked in higher education at vocational schools in Stuttgart, Schorndorf , Aalen and Schwäbisch Gmünd.

Retired early in 1967, Seidel developed a rich literary activity on the history of Schwäbisch Gmünd and its surroundings, as well as on the history of the railway system. His book Schmalspur in Baden-Württemberg (1977) saw five editions.

Honors

In 1964 he received the Schubart Literature Prize of the city of Aalen, and in 1988 the advancement award of the Verkehrsforum Bahn.
