Natural monument rock group Schnabel

The natural monument Felsgruppe Schnabel with a size of 1.26 hectares is located east of Niedersfeld in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . In addition, it is partly a legally protected biotope according to § 62 of the Landscape Act North Rhine-Westphalia with the designation GB-4716-231 and a size of 0.19 ha.

The ND consists of several staggered individual rocks made of slate up to 4 m high on the western slope of the Schnabel mountain. The ND consists of a northern smaller area and a southern larger area. The shale layers are inclined at about 45 degrees. The ND is covered by old beech wood, with red spruce mixed in in the northern part . During the expulsion, the existing spruce trees were encouraged to be pushed back.
