Natural monument K 7 outcrop on the light
The natural monument K 7-Aufschluss an der Helle with a size of 0.07 ha is located northwest of Züschen in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . The former quarry is located in the quartz porphyry tuff on the southern edge of the summit of the Helle mountain. This is a K 7 horizon, which can be seen here as an example and is 2.7 m thick. The location was therefore classified as a type locality for the entire K 7 horizons. At the top is a 0.3 to 0.5 m thick layer of tuffite . The tuff is relocated tuff which was relocated from the Devonian sea there. Numerous fossils of corals , sea lilies and trilobites can be found in the tuffite .
