Roth-Felsen natural monument

The natural monument Roth-Felsen with a size of 1.05 hectares is located southeast of Elkeringhausen in the urban area of Winterberg . The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . In addition, a small area is a legally protected biotope according to Section 62 of the Landscape Act North Rhine-Westphalia with the designation GB-4817-049 and a size of 0.07 ha.

The Roth-Felsen natural monument is located on the western edge of the Roth ridge at a height of around 620 m. The rock cliffs and rock ridges are up to 5 m high. The rock consists of claystone from the Langewiese layers. A light old beech and sessile oak forest stands on the stony and shallow slope . Younger birch and red spruce are also mixed in in the forest area. Open ground areas are overgrown with earth lichens. The area is part of a themed hiking trail in connection with the nearby former Zeche Elend.
