Natural monument outcrop on the whetstone
The natural monument Aufschluss am Wetzstein with a size of 0.21 ha is located northeast of Neuastenberg in the urban area of Winterberg . The quarry is located around 300 m south of Helleplatz, a parking lot with a refuge on a common section of federal roads 236 and 480.
The area was designated as a natural monument (ND) by the Hochsauerlandkreis in 2008 with the Winterberg landscape plan . The former quarry lies in the sandstone - clay slate horizon of the Ramsbeck strata . A hiking trail leads past the quarry .
