Kurt Tomaschitz

Kurt Tomaschitz (born September 1, 1961 in Villach ; † May 17, 2008 in Vienna ) was an Austrian ancient historian and epigraphist .

After graduating from high school in 1979, he has been studying ancient history and classical archeology at the University of Vienna since 1980 . In 1986 he received his master's degree with a thesis on the Augustan campaigns in the Danube region . In 1989 he studied with Peter Herrmann in Hamburg . From 1989 to 1993 he worked on the Asia Minor Commission of the Austrian Academy of Sciences on inscriptions from Western Cilicia . From 1993 he worked at the Institute for Ancient History, Classical Studies and Epigraphy at the University of Vienna, first as a university assistant, then as an assistant professor. On July 4, 1994 he received his doctorate from Gerhard Dobesch with a dissertation The migrations of the Celts in ancient literary tradition .
