Kurt Wagner (born December 7, 1962 in St. Pölten , Lower Austria ) is an officer of the Austrian Armed Forces with the rank of brigadier and since March 1, 2012 military commander of Vienna .

Life

Kurt Wagner graduated from the Stiftsgymnasium Melk in 1980 and then joined the Austrian Armed Forces as a one-year volunteer . From 1981 to 1984 he graduated from the Theresian Military Academy in Wiener Neustadt and served as an infantry officer in the 33rd Landwehr Trunk Regiment in Mautern an der Donau . After serving as platoon commander, training officer, deputy S 3 and company commander, he completed general staff training at the National Defense Academy in Vienna from 1991 to 1994 .

Kurt Wagner initially worked as a tactics teacher and for planning in the command of the National Defense Academy and then as a training and operations manager in the Lower Austria military command in St. Pölten and as chief of the staff of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade in Mautern. From 2001 to 2003 he was entrusted with the leadership of the 3rd Panzer Grenadier Brigade. After serving as deputy head of the General Staff Office at the Federal Ministry of Defense , Kurt Wagner was head of the Institute for Higher Military Command at the National Defense Academy from 2004 to 2012. During this time he also led the strategic leadership courses of the Republic of Austria and developed and directed the FH master's degree in military leadership. In 2006 he was entrusted with the management of the General Staff Office in the Federal Ministry for National Defense.

Kurt Wagner has been military commander of Vienna since March 1, 2012 .

Kurt Wagner graduated from the NATO Defense College in Rome in 2004 . He is a member of the college of the FH master’s courses in Military Leadership of the BMLVS and a member of the Science Commission of the BMLVS.

Private

Kurt Wagner completed a diploma course at the University of Vienna . He is married and has three children.
