Kurt Ziehmer (* 1944 in Saarbrücken ; † 2002 in Fürstenwalde ) was a German architect , designer and most recently a farmer .

life and work

After studying architecture , Kurt Ziehmer founded his own design studio in Düsseldorf in 1968 and developed light objects with and for Gunther Lambert , among others . In 1978 he received the sponsorship award of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia for young artists . From 1977 to 1981 he was a lecturer at the Düsseldorf University of Applied Sciences .

With the interior designer Klaus Bürger , Zhiemer had the company "ADA" from 1978 to 1982 for the production and sale of living room lights, including the Ada light, which Lambert added to the collection.

With the establishment of his company "ACA Ziehmer" at the end of the 1980s, he developed furniture that was handcrafted in small series and sold under the name "AXIS". Ziehmer's most striking designs include the “DS-137” chaise longue for De Sede and the “trion” furniture range for WK Wohnen . "Trion" was presented by WK in 1987 and was included in the German selection of the Design Center Stuttgart in 1988. In 1980 he created the table lamp “Puck” for the United Workshops and for the company ClassiCon the table and chair “Pontons”.

In 1997 Ziehmer moved from Düsseldorf to Berlin, where he also moved the headquarters of his company. After the reunification in Brandenburg on the outskirts of Fürstenwalde, his family got back a piece of land for which he had acquired a farm from the Treuhand in 1996 , a former LPG with 4,000 square meters of various stables and ancillary buildings. He laid new water and power lines, repaired the buildings and, from 2001, grew wheat, oats and peas on 30 hectares to feed his 800 chickens. The architect became the organic farmer with a chicken farm for egg production with connection and sales via the Gäa Association . Since 1998 Ziehmer has been managing director of "A & A agricultural and architectural concepts" with headquarters in Berlin, Lützowufer 27. The company's object was the production of and trade in agricultural and forestry products as well as buildings and facilities. Kurt Ziehmer died on his farm at the end of 2002. The farm itself is located at Molkenberger Straße 2 in Fürstenwalde and has been the "Geflügelhof Günther" since 2004.
