Services

Kurt von Gleichen-Rußwurm is best known as the founder of the Hessian Circle , a politically and denominationally independent discussion group for politics, economy and culture. It was founded in the early 1960s as a loose group of young, socially committed people. The members took turns meeting in their private apartments. They included Johann Philipp von Bethmann , Walther Leisler Kiep , Christian Schwarz-Schilling , Dieter Fertsch-Röver , Heinz Riesenhuber , Jürgen Heraeus . The circle soon became a social meeting point for an open, critical exchange of views with leading people of national and international importance. Speakers included Bill Gates , the Dalai Lama, Henry Kissinger , Christo , Ronald Reagan , Edward Heath , Helmut Kohl , Franz Josef Strauss , Marcel Reich-Ranicki , Günter Grass , Gerhard Schröder , Philip Rosenthal and August Oetker .

Von Gleichen made it important to have a mixed audience. He made sure that in addition to the usual representatives of society, young people, students, trade unionists, the military, the church and NGOs also took part in the meetings. Von Equen's style of conducting discussions, which gave the speakers little leeway for evasive answers, was just as well known as feared. Kurt von Gleichen received the Federal Cross of Merit 1st Class on April 13, 2000 for his services to the Hessian District.
