The short-billed ant hatchers ( Myrmotherula obscura ) belong to the genus Myrmotherula within the ant bird family (Thamnophilidae) .

Most authors regard it as a subspecies of the western white-throated ant hatchet ( Myrmotherula ignota ) and as M. i. called obscura . For more see under Western white-throated ant hatchers.

The species occurs in eastern Colombia to northeastern Peru and northwestern Brazil.

The Latin additional species comes from the Latin obscurus 'dark' .

The species is considered to be monotypical .
